Not everyone who practises yoga has to be a Lululemon-wearing 20-something with a Classpass membership. While the practice is popular among a younger crowd, a local trainer has recently released a yoga tutorial on Instagram and YouTube – in Hokkien – for the elderly to stretch while staying safe at home.

Even as our nation enters Phase 2 of re-opening, it’s vital that we keep those most at risk, like our grandparents, safe by staying home as much as possible. And that’s where trainer Bronson Chan’s videos come in handy – they are designed for the older generation, with easy-to-follow moves and instructions to help older folks stay mobile and flexible.

There have been two videos released to date, each 12-minute long. In it, Bronson, or Jian Long for the dialect-speaking grandparents watching, demonstrates mobility exercises that include relaxing breathing techniques, child’s pose, and the happy baby pose. “It’s like a massage,” shares Bronson in a video. “You don’t need to buy an Osim [massage] chair anymore … Osim chairs are expensive, but yoga is very cheap,” he jokes.

In another video, Bronson also walks his viewers through some basic chair yoga moves for those who have issues stretching and getting on the floor.

Gather your family and tune in for a quick exercise session. Follow Bronson’s videos at @bc_flowstate or his YouTube channel.
