Goodman Arts Centre is inviting you to uncover its past, explore its present, and peek behind the studio doors of its resident artists. On October 24, the arts enclave will host its very first Home | Ground, a six-hour celebration of the people, places and stories that have shaped it.

Once home to Tun Seri Lanang Malay Secondary School, Lasalle College of the Arts and the School of the Arts (SOTA), it’s safe to say Goodman Arts Centre has had quite the past life. Today, nearly 70 arts tenants call it home, alongside a community of artists, students, gardeners, and visitors.

Home | Ground is Goodman Arts Centre’s brand-new programme meant to celebrate these very people – and everyone who came before them. For one day only, its studios, carparks, fields, and Amphitheatre will host an arts village with performances, installations, and workshops inspired by the people who’ve shaped the centre.

Highlights include kiss the raindrops, featuring performances and installations that pay homage to Goodman Arts Centre’s past. It includes storytelling sessions by Natalie Hennedige and Suhaili Safari, paying tribute to the former Tun Seri Lanang Secondary School. You can also enjoy live music, dance and cultural experiences under Home | Frequencies of ilmu, featuring performances by local artists like Nada, Kiat and Cherry Chan.

A series of artist-led workshops under the umbrella i thought you knew will help you find creative potential in the wonderfully mundane – and allow you to slow down. Learn about the art of ironing a shirt with Nicole Goh, or join a heartwarming workshop where fathers learn to braid their children’s hair. Food trucks, makers, and local creatives will also gather in a festive village setting at Ground Goods.

And if you’ve ever wondered what actually goes on behind those closed studio doors, this is your chance to find out. More than 20 Goodman Arts Centre tenants will open their workspaces to the public for Open Studios, starting from 10am on October 24. You can get a closer look at works-in-progress, artistic processes and the spaces where ideas take shape, with opportunities to chat directly with the artists themselves.

The celebrations also extend beyond Goodman Arts Centre with the launch of Heritage Activation Node @ Mountbatten (HAN@Mountbatten), a collaboration with the National Heritage Board (NHB). This programme aims to uncover the neighbourhood’s lesser-known histories through the memories of residents, heritage businesses, artists, and other community members.

Home | Ground takes place at Goodman Arts Centre on October 24, 2026, from 4pm to 10pm. Open Studios begins at 10am. Admission details have yet to be announced.
