Here’s what we know about the food and lifestyle offerings at this upcoming complex that’s just 20 minutes from the checkpoint

All talk of Johor Bahru (JB) seems to point to one mall right now: SKS City Mall JBCC, which opened on May 1 after much anticipation. Other than being a mere five-minute drive from the checkpoint, this sizeable shopping centre houses plenty of eateries, Japan’s famous Matsumoto Kiyoshi drugstore, and something for the blind box fans. With Singaporeans excitedly flocking over to check it out, it wouldn’t be surprising to bump into a familiar face while there.
But if you’d rather avoid the crowds, there’s another new mall to explore in the Iskandar Puteri area near Legoland Malaysia: Horizon Mall, named for its location in the upscale Horizon Hills integrated township.
What we know so far: there’s going to be loads of greenery and woody fixtures spread across the mall, with both air-conditioned zones and semi-open spaces that let in natural light and fresh air as part of its biophilic design. Artist impressions depict communal areas where visitors can gather and soak in the vibes. It brings to mind Singapore’s own Geneo at Kent Ridge, minus the cathedral-like architecture and industrial aspect.
No trip across the Causeway is complete without yummy and affordable food options, and Horizon Mall’s list of confirmed F&B tenants includes the following: Zus Coffee, Padi House for traditional local fare, ChaTraMue, Llao Llao, and a Starbucks with a drive-thru – with more to be announced soon. Other names to look out for include Village Grocer supermarket, family-friendly karaoke joint Loud Speaker, and kids’ indoor playground Jungle Gym.
Initial reports stated that Horizon Mall would open in May 2026, though other sources point to an unspecified date closer to the end of the year. However, Horizon Hills’ Instagram page just posted a teaser of the mall’s facade on May 7 – so we’re guessing that it’ll be happening sooner rather than later.
