The Swedish furniture and home decor giant is known for rolling out fun, innovative quick fixes for the home that don't cost a bomb. Every year when the brand rolls out its catalogue for the prospective year, loyal customers can look forward to some exciting products that will be available in the upcoming months (and days). Here's what we know so far.

Collaboration with Lego

'Fess up – many of us have purchased something from the kids' section despite being slightly overgrown. Here's more reason to browse in the section. The Lego Group is collaborating with Ikea on its own collection called Bygglek. Prices start from $19.90 for a box made of Lego and you can purchase a 201-piece Lego brick set for $24.90 so you can build imaginary worlds on the box or inside the box – or even display it for all to see. Let your imagination run wild and start building.

Collaboration with Sonos

Ikea is known for its great range of home furnishings and is now expanding to electronics, mainly in speakers for the home. Teaming up with one of the world’s leading sound experience brands, Sonos, the Symphonisk range offers affordable wifi speakers that look good and also sound good – thanks to Sonos' expertise in this area. The versatile and slim bookshelf speaker is $179 and can also be used as a floating bedside table. Other products in the range include the table lamp speaker ($279) which will make a good conversation starter with guests.

Expanding the smart home series

Turning your home into a smart home doesn't have to be costly. The Tradfri series at Ikea offers bulbs, plugs and even smart blinds that you can control remotely from an app. If getting everything connected is too mind-boggling for you, you can get a smart lighting kit (starting from $39.90) that will guide you through the process. It pretty easy to assemble – just like its furniture.

Renovation station

If you're looking for a one-stop solution on how to spruce up your BTO flat, Ikea is now offering renovation packages for homeowners. Beyond just getting your dream Ikea kitchen (which the company also offers), you can get your home fitted and kitted with Ikea cabinets, shelving and also furnishing. All you have to do is move in.

Dinosaurs!

They may have ruled the earth a long time ago but now you can bring a miniature, non-menacing plush version of dinosaurs into your homes. Now available at Ikea stores and online, you can round up the whole dino gang which includes the triceratops, T-rex and ankylosaurus.

Meatballs for vegetarians

From October 12 onwards, the Ikea restaurant will be introducing the Plant Ball, a sustainable and meatless alternative to the already iconic meatball. Made with plant-based ingredients, the plant ball takes this Ikea icon to the future. Taste-wise the plant ball is equally tasty, and only leaves behind a climate footprint that’s only four per cent of its meaty counterpart.

Pet-friendly furniture?

There are other upcoming collections that will be unveiled nearer to its launch dates, including Lurvig, Ikea’s pet collection.
