UPDATED (July 9) When it comes to American fast food in the East Coast, there's the perennial debate: Shake Shack or Five Guys, which is better? You don't have to fly all the way to New York to find out because you can soon try both in Singapore. Hot off the heels of Shake Shack's opening at Jewel Changi Airport in April, Zouk Group has announced that it's bringing Five Guys to Singapore in the fourth quarter of 2019.

The first outlet of the American burger joint will be located at Plaza Singapura. It's taking over a prime spot on the mall's ground floor, close to the main atrium, and will have both indoor and outdoor seating options.

The burger joint first set up shop in Arlington, Virginia in 1986 and currently has over 1,600 restaurants across North America, Europe, Middle East and Asia, with the highest number of outlets located in the United States and United Kingdom. Five Guys serves fresh-to-order burgers with customisable free toppings, hot dogs, sandwiches as well as hand-cut fries and promises that its food is never frozen or microwaved. No trip to Five Guys is complete without a milkshake either – the Five Guys shake also includes free mix-ins like peanut butter, malted milk and banana.
