Our already vibrant heartlands are looking a little more colourful lately. You might have spotted some curious-looking pod structures at void decks or open fields in your neighbourhood – these are Giant Delight installations, which have sprung up all around the island as part of our nation’s ongoing SG60 diamond jubilee celebrations.

Created hand-in-hand by local artists and members of the community, these public artworks are part of an initiative by the People’s Association (PA) and Community Arts & Culture Clubs (CACCs), in an effort to foster that friendly ‘kampong spirit’ among residents, and build a sense of identity while telling our uniquely Singaporean stories.

All displays are made with the theme ‘Our Neighbourhood Gems’ in mind, and these include elements both from Singapore’s past and present. Aside from the Giant Delight pods, which depict scenes like kampong life by the waters, hawker culture, and our native wildlife, look out for other handcrafted pieces, including a Casuarina tree featuring a squirrel and a block of HDB flats – complete with laundry hanging from bamboo poles.
