If you're on social media at all, you must have seen the large crowds at the Marina Bay waterfront, all eager to catch Marina Bay Sands' The Legend of the Dragon Gate drone light show over the Chinese New Year weekend. The drone show is scheduled to happen on three more nights, but the original dates and timings have changed. The huge crowds have also sparked safety concerns and to mitigate, Marina Bay Sands has issued safety advisories and enhanced crowd control measures that you should be aware of. Read on to find out more before heading down this week.

What are the new dates and times for the drone show?

The scheduled February 17 drone show has been brought forward to February 15. The new show dates are February 15, 16, and 18.

The drone show will now start at 9pm instead of 8pm as originally planned. In the case of bad weather, the start time may be rescheduled to 10pm. As weather conditions are unpredictable, it's best to check Marina Bay Sands' Facebook or Instagram pages for updates before heading down to the waterfront on the day itself.

What are alternative viewing locations for the drone show?

Great news: there's no need to squeeze with everyone else on the Marina Bay waterfront promenade to get a good view of the drone show. The 10-minute performance can be viewed across the entire 3.5km belt of the waterfront – the Mist Walk and Helix Bridge are some options. This way, you get a good view and a more comfortable experience.

Which MRT station should I use to get to the drone show?

Bayfront MRT is the most obvious option, but large crowds are expected. To avoid that, commuters are advised to alight or depart from the following stations:

  • Downtown MRT station, for those at or heading to Mist Walk
  • Promenade MRT station, for those at or heading to Helix Bridge

What other crowd control measures are in place?

Marina Bay Sands is activating its security plans for major events like New Year's Eve countdown, so expect more security personnel patrolling the crowds. These guys are there to keep you safe, so do follow their instructions and disperse in an orderly manner.

If you're coming from The Shoppes, take note that mall entrances and exits on Level 1 (from Black Tap to Da Paolo Gastronomia) will be closed progressively from 5pm to 10pm to manage crowding in the mall. Bayfront MRT Exit D may also be closed for arriving commuters, depending on the crowd situation.
