New curved bridge to link Marina Centre and Gardens by the Bay for pedestrians and cyclists by 2029

Connecting directly to the city’s 75km Round Island Route

For years, getting from Marina Centre to Gardens by the Bay has required taking the long way around. However, that inconvenience is finally being engineered out – a new curved bridge linking the two locations for cyclists and pedestrians is expected to be completed by 2029.

Zoom out, and the move makes sense. Set about 30 metres from the Benjamin Sheares Bridge, the new bridge slips into Singapore’s expanding recreational network and connects directly to the 75km Round Island Route – the island’s longest continuous leisure stretch, tracing a path from the north-east to Changi Beach Park, via East Coast Park, past the Singapore River and down to Berlayer Creek.

You won’t be left to fend for yourself once you’re off the bridge, either. Ramps will plug directly into East Coast Park, Bay East Garden and Tanjong Rhu, with the Tanjong Rhu ramp coming complete with a pavilion – and, yes, a public toilet.

On the Marina Centre end, ramps will link cyclists and pedestrians to a future connection to Bay Central Garden and the Round Island Route. This sits near the Formula 1 Paddock Club and the Marina Bay Street Circuit, which is transformed each year for the Formula 1 race.

The bridge does more than move people from point A to B, too – at its highest point, the bridge will rise at least 8.8m above the water, leaving enough space for boats to pass beneath. It allows for three water lanes, with at least 20m of clearance for motorised boats and a minimum of 40m for non-motorised ones.
