If kicking your doomscrolling addiction and being less chronically online in general are part of your New Year’s resolutions, here’s some welcome news: From March 2026 onwards, your $100 worth of SG Culture Pass credits will be usable for book purchases, on top of the existing slew of cultural programmes, theatre shows, and art workshops.
The catch? You’ll only be able to offset purchases in the Singapore Literature category, also known as SingLit. It’s a great chance for bookworms to delve deeper into our country’s own literary scene, and if you haven’t already gotten acquainted with this genre of reads, take this as an opportunity to discover your new favourite authors.
It’s not just fiction tales in English that are up for free redemption – poetry, plays, and short essays in all four official languages (English, Chinese, Malay, and Tamil) are also part of the list, as long as they are physical books written by a Singaporean or permanent resident.
The list of participating bookshops is still being approved by the Ministry of Culture, Community & Youth (MCCY), but we’re expecting a handful of our beloved local independent bookstores in the mix. In the meantime, if you absolutely can’t wait to add more titles to your shelf, check out our favourite bookstores like Book Bar, Littered with Books, and Books Kinokuniya’s newest outlet at Raffles City.
