Just as you think the F1 excitement has wound down, Perspectives Film Festival 2026 returns from November 6 to 8 with Under The Hood: Automobility In Cinema, putting automobiles centre stage with global films featuring road trips, car chases, and iconic cars.
Now in its 19th edition, Perspectives Film Festival: Breakthroughs in Cinema is Singapore’s longest-running student-led film festival, organised by undergraduates from NTU’s Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information.
This year’s theme looks at the car as more than just a vehicle for getting around. Across seven films, automobiles become entangled with ideas of freedom, ambition, desire, danger and identity, while the roads they travel open up bigger questions about how we experience time, space and movement.
Screening across Oldham Theatre and Golden Village Cineleisure, the lineup gets off to a suitably chaotic start with ‘Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior’, George Miller’s petrol-soaked 1981 classic about a drifter caught in a turf war over precious fuel. There’s also ‘The Wages of Fear’, the nail-biting 1953 thriller about four men tasked with hauling nitroglycerin along treacherous roads, and David Cronenberg’s gloriously unsettling ‘Crash’, which turns car wrecks into the centre of a very unconventional obsession. Both ‘The Wages of Fear’ and ‘Crash’ will screen in new 4K restorations.
Elsewhere, the programme heads far beyond the usual Hollywood highway. ‘Luna Papa’ follows a young woman and her family across Central Asia in search of a mysterious man, while ‘Perfumed Nightmare’ sees a Filipino jeepney driver dreaming of technological progress and a bigger world. Swiss-French hybrid documentary-fiction film 'Summer Drift' and Chinese road trip film 'Kaili Blues' round out this year's selection.
Tickets go on sale September 29, with individual screenings priced from $12. A three-film Third Wheel bundle costs $33, while the Race Weekend pass gets you into all seven screenings for $70. The opening film costs $14. Find out more here.
