While Singapore is an ‘island city’, it’s not typically the first place that comes to mind when we’re talking about beach getaways. Let’s face it – compared to other countries with vast, pristine stretches of white sandy shores, our beaches in places like East Coast Park and Sembawang Park aren’t quite as flawless. Nevertheless, one beach from Singapore has made its way onto a list of top 100 beaches in the world: Sentosa’s Siloso Beach.

To be exact, Siloso Beach ranks at 91st place in theGolden Beach Award 2024 list by BeachAtlas, a London-based company that’s focused on, well, beaches. They emphasise that their selection is based on more than just conventional aesthetic appeal of “powdery sands and clear blue waters”, and instead also includes a host of other factors such as lifestyle offerings and entertainment.

The shortlist of 100 beaches was first done via an algorithm, based on the following criteria: classic beauty, party and lifestyle, DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion), community, natural diversity, and cultural significance. These were then ranked by travel experts and influencers from around the world.

Coming in at first place globally is Bora Bora from French Polynesia, followed by Boulders Beach in South Africa, Waikiki Beach in Hawaii, and Copacabana in Brazil. As for beaches in Asia, Maya Bay in Thailand comes in at fifth place, followed by Pattaya Beach in Thailand (#12), Kelingking Beach in Bali, Indonesia (#34), Baga in India (#35), Okinawa Beach in Japan (#36), Hidden Beach in Philippines (#37), and Haeundae Beach in Busan, Korea (#55), among a couple of others. Check out the full list of 100 here.

In BeachAtlas’ report, Siloso Beach is lauded for offering visitors a “serene contrast to the urban hustle”, where there are family-friendly activities to enjoy in the day, along with buzzin’ nightlife. This is indeed true – Siloso Beach is a stone’s throw from attractions like the immersive light and sound show Magical Shores, Scentopia for perfume workshops, AJ Hackett for bungee jumping if you dare, as well as the new Central Beach Bazaar. You can also chill by the beach at Rumours Beach Club with cushy daybeds and cabanas, as well as Ola Beach Club slightly further down.

Siloso Beach aside, there’s plenty of fun to be had within the island of Sentosa – hop on over to our ultimate guide to Sentosa for more.
