Phase one of the Greater Sentosa Master Plan brings a replacement for the Sentosa Express and the new Imbiah Canopy

Sentosa may already be Singapore’s go-to playground for beaches, resorts and theme parks, but the island is gearing up for a much bigger transformation. The government has kicked off the first stage of the Greater Sentosa Master Plan – a long-term transformation that ropes in both Sentosa and Pulau Brani, with plans to turn the area into an even bigger hangout spot for visitors in the years ahead.
In the first phase, a new transport hub will be built to better connect Sentosa and Pulau Brani, with space for future lifestyle and hospitality spots to pop up around it. The Sentosa Express – the monorail that has been ferrying visitors to the island since 2007 –is also set to be replaced, making it easier to hop between the mainland and Sentosa.
Beyond transport, the island itself is set for an upgrade. Its beaches will be spruced up, along with the addition of coastal protection features, so visitors can continue to enjoy the shoreline while guarding against rising sea levels. New attractions are also in the pipeline, including the Imbiah Canopy – a new landmark structure on Mount Imbiah that will serve as a gateway to nearby heritage sites and nature trails.
More details on the wider plan are expected later this year, so stay tuned. For now, one thing’s clear: by 2045, Greater Sentosa is predicted to draw about a whopping 5.3 million international visitors each year.
