Singapore's passport is now the most powerful in the world, overtaking Japan in the Henley Passport Index.

No doubt, one of the best things about holding a Singaporean passport is the travel freedom it gives us. And in 2023, Singaporean passport holders have visa-free access to 192 out of 227 global destinations.

Our country consistently ranks in the top five of the Henley Passport Index. Singapore last held the top spot in 2023, when we had visa-free access to 194 destinations. Japan was right behind with easy access to 193 destinations. In 2022, it replaced Singapore in first place with 193 destinations, while we slipped to second place with South Korea with 192 visa-free destinations.

This year, Japan shares third place with Austria, Finland, France, Luxembourg, South Korea, and Sweden. Each has visa-free access to 189 global destinations. Germany, Italy, and Spain take second place with easy travel to 190 destinations.

And in the bottom five? These are Yemen (35), Pakistan (33), Syria (30), Iraq (29) and Afghanistan (27).

If you've never heard of the Henley Passport Index, it's a quarterly index that is considered the standard reference for assessing a passport's global mobility. It draws on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA) and has historical data spanning 18 years.
