On most nights, Kilo Lounge in the cool Tanjong Pagar district is buzzing with activity – whether it be a live gig by a world-renowned DJ or a casual mixer with some dancing. But alas, after three years on the belt, Kilo Lounge is ceasing operations on December 31, 2019. The announcement of its closure comes just shy of its anniversary.

Compared to powerhouses like Zouk, Kilo Lounge, which opened in December 2016 primarily finds its niche in house and techno – genres that are still (for the most part) considered underground compared to EDM, hip-hop and other nightlife tunes. Still, the club has had a fantastic run, hosting live music acts and DJs like indie darling Mitski, groovy electro-funk duo Chromeo, dream-pop outfit Wild Nothing and more. Its stage and decks were graced by burgeoning and seasoned talent from around the world and it was a notable go-to venue in Singapore's nightlife and music scene.

More shows and added traffic to the place resulted in increasing operational costs in maintaining the venue. A spokesperson from the team adds, "It’s been a fantastic run, but truthfully, the costs that come with operating on a prime belt of Singapore real estate hasn’t proven to be financially sustainable for a club like ours."

The team is currently searching for a new home for Kilo Lounge and while it is unsure how long this will take, best believe it won't be leaving the neighbourhood quietly. Kilo Lounge is making the most out of its final days with kick drums and synths on blast, check out its lineup and make a visit before the end of the year.
