This free-to-use site helps connect hawkers to freelance delivery riders

A volunteer-run initiative that’s helping to save our local food industry

The ban on dining out may have impacted the livelihood of many food and beverage (F&B) businesses, but we’ve also seen many great initiatives that help #savefnbsg. We’ve got the ‘Hawkers United - Dabao 2020’ Facebook Group which provides a free platform for hawkers and small F&B owners to advertise their delivery and takeout services. There’s also dineinmovement.com, which aggregates top eating spots around Singapore and allows you to order directly from participating restaurants.

But Jason Leow realised that there was another problem: although these emerging platforms shine a spotlight on small F&B businesses, there's still a shortage of delivery drivers that fulfil the orders and bring food to people’s doors. And so, together with a group of volunteers, they created Da Bao Dash, a free-to-use online platform that seeks to connect F&B owners with freelance delivery riders. “I wanted to help out in any way I can,” says the designer on the Da Bao Dash website. “Anything to help save a little slice of our culinary heritage and people’s livelihoods.”

Those who require delivery services can browse the site’s community board, while drivers who want to offer their services can also put up their details on the website. It’s a win-win situation for all – F&B owners can access a potentially large fleet of delivery personnel, and those who need jobs can get some extra income to help tide through this period. Know someone who might benefit from this service? Share this link bit.ly/dabaodash with them
