By creatives, for creatives – Deep Cuts is Singapore's first grassroots conference series for the creative community. Launching from January 13 to 14 at Peace Centre, the event gathers those from the music and nightlife, visual art, street art, and dance scenes to examine and discuss creative community building in Singapore.
Far from our cookie cutter reputation, Singapore's creative scene is alive and well with collectives and independents shaking up the events calendar with underground parties, projects and safe spaces centred on all things music and art. Deep Cuts attempts to shed light on the persistent efforts of over 40 artists and practitioners – with an eye to shaping a thriving future for the scene.
The programming includes Deep Dives, live podcast style keynotes that explore specific topics and creative practices with speakers like butoh practitioner and choreographer Xue, artist Minsoo Bae of Queer Life Drawing, and visual arts performer Jaymi McManus of Mischief Makers.
Learn from the creative entrepreneurs who've built successful communities from the ground up at panels and presentations too – there's Chris Shearmon of Wild Pearl, Wang Ruobing of Comma Arts Space, and Kimberly Shen of DblSpace, among others. Photographers, journalists, and musicians will also chip in with precious nuggets on documenting and cultivating the nightlife and music scenes in Singapore.
At Deep Cuts, you can also get hands-on at closed-door workshops or join Peace Centre residents (CÜN, DPLMT, A Piece of Peace Centre) at on-ground activations. Stick around for the official afterparty hosted by Life in Arpeggio founder Kevin Ho. DJs and music selectors of the night include Sivilian Affairs, Strange Weather and Shinju Maru bringing a whole range of irresistible beats from disco, techno, to psychedlic.
