Luxury brand Hermès has built quite a name for itself over the years, but let’s not forget that it all started as a humble family-owned business – one that first gained its standing with high-quality riding saddles and leather harnesses.

At Marina Bay Sands from October 1 to 9 (12pm to 8pm), there’s now a new exhibition that delves into the rich heritage of Hermès. Enter the Event Plaza and you’ll notice that this pop-up has been cleverly inspired by a craftsman’s workbench. The intricate stitching of a Kelly bag or the vibrant colours of a silk scarf – the artisans will also be there in person to share more about the years spent honing their craft.

The exhibition itself is marked by four distinct themes: the expert know-how carried through over the years, respect for quality materials, commitment to the long-term through sustainable practices, and even regional anchoring. Clearly, this is everything that the house of Hermès takes great pride in. There’ll also be two talks on craftsmanship and the preservation of such skills, as well as the need to be innovative in this modern world.

While fast fashion and fleeting trends might shape today’s landscape, the house of Hermès prides itself on luxury goods that are equally durable as they are well-designed. After all, it’s been their ethos since 1837. So far, few design houses have matched the unparalleled quality of Hermès and this new exhibition clearly shows why. And with hands-on workshops and film screenings on sustainability, it certainly makes for an eye-opening experience.
