To mark its 30th birthday, the Singapore Art Museum is opening its doors to the public for free for one day only. That’s right, that means free entry to all its exclusive exhibitions, including blockbuster showcases like Hiroshi Sugimoto’s Form Is Emptiness and the newly unveiled exhibition, Afterimage by Maria Taniguchi. As a treat to art lovers, there will also be a special artist talk with Taniguchi herself. She will be joined by art historian and National Gallery Singapore Chief Curator Patrick Flores for a conversation about her practice and creative process.
SAM’s birthday celebrations don’t end there. The museum has curated a family-friendly programme that immerses you in the arts, from drop-in craft stations and beginner-friendly workshops to live performances and carnival games. Learn how to craft your own origami robe, try your hand at punch needling, and get into the basics of still life drawing. If you’re just there to chill, then sit back, relax and enjoy a fire bubble magic show or be serenaded by Singapore’s youngest local busker, Shayne Ko.
