Don't know what to wear for Halloween and want to go beyond the witch, zombie and Pontianak trope? These hassle-free and trendy outfits will guarantee that you'll get some laughs and start some conversations, even if you're not the best-dressed around. These ice-breaker outfits are so 2021, and some are locally-inspired too. I mean, duh. This global phenomenon is quite the obvious choice, but hey – if you're throwing together a costume at the last minute, then there's no time to think so much. The series offers many costume options too: wear some red overalls to pose as the Squid Game guards, cop an orange pinafore to be the girl robot, DIY a mask and an all-black fit to transform yourself into the mysterious Front Man, or throw on a green and grey tracksuit and an air of greed and desperation to complete your Squid Game contestant persona. Easy peasy.

Ghost challenge

When you're in need of ideas, TikTok never disappoints. The trending ghost challenge is the best last minute Halloween costume idea ever – all you need is a white bedsheet and some sunglasses. Throw on the sheet, put the shades on over it, and head on your merry way – onto public transport and the streets (if you dare) and onto your party. Don't forget to put it on TikTok!

Sorry not sorry, but we are TikTok obsessed. Another trending look is Olivia Rodrigo's Sour album cover look – a face full of stickers. And that's exactly what you need to do. Just head out to your nearest stationery store, pick the most glittery stickers you can find and stick it artfully on your precious mug. If you can walk around with your tongue sticking out the whole day too (with stickers spelling out 'sour' on it), then props to you.

MMTF

For some local flavour...why not cosplay as one of our multi-ministry task force ministers? After all, they've been dominating the news with Covid-19 updates – and we have to admit that we feel no small amount of trepidation before every big announcement. No thanks, Covid. To get the look, just wear a suit, comb back your hair, carry some sort of microphone around, look worried and deliver COVID-19 statistics and restrictions every time someone talks to you.

Baby panda

If you haven't heard, Singapore welcomed it's first giant panda cub at River Wonders earlier this year. It doesn't have a name yet, but that shouldn't stop you from melting some hearts. To make it believable, get a fluffly black and white coat (or DIY it) and stuff it full to get that adorable, bouncy look of a panda baby.

Iconic. And easy to pull off. Grab a long black dress (or even a generic black sheet), cover up your whole face with more black cloth, and fade into the background like an ominous shadow...and there you got it, Halloween 2021 done.
