This piece of public art, which opened in 2014, is modelled on the 11-circuit 13th century labyrinth of Chartres Cathedral, but just 18 metres in diameter. What's the difference between a maze and a labyrinth? The former has several different pathways, whereas a labyrinth has only a single path and there are no dead ends (paging David Bowie). Hence, the honchos at Sydney Parklands and Royal Botanic Gardens envision a peaceful, even meditative experience - rather than a terrifying hedge-locked one, à la The Shining.
