The Chinese Garden of Friendship has imbued the Darling Harbour precinct with the Taoist philosophy of Yin (calmness) and Yan (activity) for 30 years. To celebrate three decades providing calming balance and natural beauty in the centre of the city, the garden will host a series of free activities over two big weeks.
From September 29-October 14, you can wander among the towering willow trees and serene koi ponds on three different guided tours. Explore the history and cultural heritage of the garden, investigate the exotic plants and native varieties that inhabit the sprawling horticultural oasis, or understand the meaning behind the garden’s significant rock formations.
You can also visit the retrospective photo exhibition about the garden along its walls, or on the weekends hear a fittingly ambient symphony from live musicians while you attend a tea tasting.
And since the birthday celebrations are landing right on the school holidays, there’ll be a big program of activities for kids and families, from art workshops where they’ll make replicas of the garden and sun print photographs, to storytime sessions with traditional Chinese mythologies and craft courses where you can make and share a friendship bracelet.
All the birthday activities are free once your admission to the garden is paid.
