Time Out says

When it comes to classic, fresh and flavourful mixed drinks, nothing beats a Johnnie Highball. Combining Johnnie Walker Black Label Scotch Whisky, a mixer, ice and garnish, it’s the perfect way to ease into an evening with friends and enjoy whatever snacks are on the table to the fullest. Johnnie Walker wants you to discover and experience these simple truths, and Spice Alley in the beating heart of Chippendale is the place to do it.

The Johnnie & Spiced Orange Highball is a perfect match for Hong Kong Diner's BBQ pork buns or the Singapore chilli prawns from Ginger & Spice.

The tartness of a Johnnie & Lemongrass Highball makes it an ideal match for the nasi goreng from Warong Bali or the ever-popular char koay teow from Old Jim Kee.

Chinese classics the rainbow dumplings from Shanghai Dumpling Bar and Hainanese chicken rice from Alex Lee Kitchen are crying out for a Johnnie & Green Tea Highball.

And a delicious Johnnie & Lychee Ginger Highball elevates Bang Luck's classic pad thai and Kyoto's umami miso eggplant dish beautifully.

Make the most of these food and drink pairings by reserving seating via the Johnnie Highball House at Spice Alley. For $40 per person get a two-hour spot at Spice House, upstairs in one of Spice Alley’s historic terrace houses, a $30 Spice Alley food card to redeem, a Johnnie Highball and a Johnnie Highball x Spice Alley Flavour Pairing Card. Book here.

Wanting a deep dive into cocktail making? Try the How to Highball Masterclass, available Wednesdays and Thursdays in May. The $50 sessions include all of the above, plus Johnnie Walker brand ambassador Katie Nagar hosting a half-hour Highball masterclass to guide you through creating the perfect Johnnie Highball. Book here.

From April 29 until the end of May, the happening hawker-style laneway will be home to the Johnnie Highball Bar. Here, you’ll be able to snag variations on the timeless tipple (for $9) that showcase Asian flavours and are designed to be enjoyed alongside dishes from the surrounding stalls.

The Johnnie Highball Pop-up kicks off at Spice Alley, Kensington St, Chippendale on Thursday, April 29 and runs Sun-Thu 5-9.30pm and Fri, Sat 5-10pm until Sun May 30.

Remember to drink responsibly. Discover more about the Johnnie Highball here and find out about Time Out's Neighbourhood Walkthru of Chippendale here.
