For one weekend only, Taylors Wines is inviting sea and shiraz-loving Sydneysiders to an exclusive tasting experience. The twist is, it’s floating in the middle of Sydney Harbour. The bespoke cellar door has been built especially on a floating barge for this one-off experience that will run from December 7-9.
But this isn’t your average wine tasting, where punters show up in boozy throngs and talk over the sommeliers. To reach Taylors Cellar Door at Sea, groups of 12 tasters are whisked across the waves in a dedicated water taxi from the Man O War steps to the private location at Farm Cove on the Harbour. With the salt breeze behind you, and those famous views all around, you’ll then begin a tasting journey that explores the role of temperature in enjoying a summer drop of your favourite citrusy riesling, chilled oaky chardonnay or even a full-bodied cabernet. Prepare to discover just how refreshing a red can be in summer, busting the myth that it should be served at ‘room temperature’.
Guided by My Kitchen Rules 2015 winners Will and Steve. you’ll taste Taylors’ Estate range wines, which feature colour-changing temperature sensor labels that dictate the perfect temp at which to enjoy each bottle, particularly during the hotter months. Will and Steve now craft the menu at Butcher and the Farmer, which has quickly become a Tramsheds mainstay and will be providing canapés to savour with each glass of wine on the day.
The tasting is a 60-minute experience that gives you the opportunity to focus all your energy on simply enjoying the perfect glass of wine, away from the clamour of the city and chaos of busy bars. Each tasting ticket includes the transfer to and from the exclusive location, a perfectly chilled selection of Taylors wine in varietal-specific Riedel glassware, and the gourmet menu. The standard price is $60 per person, and if you’d like to add a little extra magic, you can book in for a glowing sunset tasting for $70. Book now to avoid disappointment.
