PSA: The small bars of Sydney’s CBD have recently joined forces under the umbrella of YCK Laneways. ‘YCK’ refers to York, Clarence and Kent Streets, where the bars are clustered.
On the heels of their launch event (YCK Laneways Block Party), the precinct has now unveiled a 13-day program of events called Night Over Light as part of this year’s brand-new Sydney Solstice celebration, June 8-20.
The program spans 76 free and ticketed events across 15 bars. Listen to poets at Since I Left You, or New Orleans jazz at the Swinging Cat. Sing sea shanties at the Duke of Clarence or Spawn Point. Dance to Nu Disco at the Barber Shop, or Late Night DJs at Papa Gedes Bar. Get a tarot reading at Stitch, or a caricature drawn at Grandma’s. And there’s much more besides.
Showcasing the very best of Sydney’s entertainment scene when it shines brightest in the dark of night, the series will act as a another CBD recovery initiative in the wake of Covid-19. Bookings are strongly recommended for these events (even the free ones) as numbers are strictly limited.
This festival has been brought to life by YCK Laneways in partnership with Independent Bars Association and Time Out. Sydney Solstice is an initiative of Destination NSW.
