Time Out says

This week-long festival celebrates percussion in all its many styles via a line-up of concerts, workshops and talks

Just when you thought Sydney’s jam-packed calendar of events couldn't get any better, a brand new festival is about to launch that’s sure to get both musicians and music lovers excited.

Boom! International Festival of Percussion kicks off with a bang (quite literally!) on October 1. This celebration of percussion will mostly be held at the Seymour Centre in Chippendale, and it will bring together some of the world’s leading percussive artists, like Kaoru Watanabe, David Jones and Nacho Mena, with Fritz Hauser live streaming from overseas to share insights on his approach to music making.

This maiden festival will be bookended by two public performances, with the opening concert at Sydney Town Hall set to feature Taikoz, Synergy Percussion (Australia’s oldest and foremost contemporary music ensemble), Michael Askill, Claire Edwardes and many more. The impressive line-up also features more than 30 live gigs, masterclasses, discussions, online Q&As and hands-on workshops.

The event will conclude on October 8 with free public daytime performances and workshops, and a closing concert showcasing the talents of Circle of Rhythm, Gai Bryant’s Afro-Latin powerhouse Caribé and ex-member of Taikoz and Cirque du Soleil, Anton Lock.

If a week-long percussion extravaganza featuring music from right around the world sounds like your idea of a guaranteed good time, then this is one beat-heavy festival to clear your October schedule for.
