Kicking off the International Metropolis conference, a meeting of leading thinkers and speakers on global migration, will be a performance night celebrating Australia's First Nations culture. Usually only open to delegates, this year the event is open to the public, so you too can enjoy the music, dance, and storytelling at the Seymour Centre.
First up is a performance from members of NAISDA Dance College, an Indigenous Australian training college located on Darkinjung land north of Sydney, who use movement to honour the world’s oldest living culture and bring their stories, art, and history to audiences around the country. Followed by singer-songwriter Gawurra, a Yolngu man who weaves the traditional songlines of his home in Milingimbi Island, North East Arnhem Land into swelling pop songs. Singing in Gupapuyngu language, Gawurra's award-winning songs and arresting voice are bound to be all the more stirring experienced live.
Your ticket also means you get to experience the ultimate perk of any conference – free canapés, drinks, and a light dinner at intermission.
