In case you needed another reason to sign up for free to Stream – the Sydney Opera House’s aptly named online streaming platform – a new contemporary music film series is now showing. Kicking off on November 12, and running across three consecutive weeks, Liminal is a showcase of incredibly diverse performances by some of Australia’s most exciting artists.
The Joan Sutherland Theatre Stage is hosting the live series, and has been transformed into a 360-degree blank canvas designed specifically to elevate each performer’s artistry and allow them to create an intimate connection with the audience. The team at Sydney-based studio Subversus are directing and producing the project in conjunction with the Opera House’s world-class production team, filming each individual act from various angles under dramatic lighting.
The stacked line-up includes 19-year-old Bundjalung descendent and soulful singer-songwriter Budjerah, who opened the series with an acoustic set featuring tracks from his debut self-titled EP. Also on the bill is BLESSED, a triple-threat singer, rapper and producer; Liz Martin, a singer-songwriter who is bringing along her five-piece band for the show; Ninajirachi, an electronic producer and DJ making her Opera House debut and indie-pop duo EGOISM – who also happen to be childhood besties.
Rounding out the rest of the performances are ARIA Award-winning jazz pianist Chris Abrahams and multi-dimensional Indonesian-Somalian artist Maina Doe, while Young Franco – one of the country’s most in-demand producers – is closing the series with a dreamy, blissed-out gig that will bring all the good vibes.
