Time Out says

The most extra queer party starters in town are back with their biggest street festival yet

Heaps Gay’s street festival is back with a vengance after sell-out years in 2017 and 2018, and a forced hiatus in 2019 after Westconnex claimed the original location. Roadwerk festival will take over an even bigger industrial location in the Inner West this year and also heads to Newcastle for the first time.

This summer festival celebrates local talent along with a broad range of Australian and international music selections and a multi-faceted program of live music, performance and art installations.

Roadwerk’s live music lineup is shaped Sydney youth broadcasters FBi Radio and first nations leaders Koori Radio. International club queen UNIIQU3 has just been announced as headliner, fresh from spreading the good vibes at Coachella and Afropunk. Rounding out the lineup is electro-pop hit-maker Chela, queer bubblegum punk duo Cry Club, Melbourne's Memphis LK, Sydney electonic band The Goods, JamarzOnMarz, Lauren. and more.

Meanwhile Performance Space, champions of emerging queer creatives, will have a hand in curating a broad range of talent including diverse local drag performers such as the likes of BLAQ, Felicia Foxx, Lady Fur, Megana, Millie Sykes, Stelly G and Twiggy Styx

Food stalls will be curated by committed foodie Claire Van Vuuren of Newtown’s Bloodwood. The folks from 4 Pines Brewing Company will be serving up frosty ones and Southern Comfort, Fireball Whiskey and Red Bull will be taking care of cocktails.

Roadwerk will take over a quiet industrial corner of Marrickville on Saturday January 18, just around the corner from the previous location, sandwiched between local institutions such as the Red Rattler and Marrickville Bowling Club and a just hop and a skip from Sydenham Station.

The Newcastle event will take over sprawling pub the Lass O'Gowrie on Saturday February 1, with 100% of the profits being donated to Bush Fire Relief Aid.
