Time Out says

An inspiring night that celebrates the beauty of Persian poetry and storytelling, in support of Afghan communities

If you’ve been feeling frustrated seeing the nightly news beaming out of Kabul, then take heart. There are simple ways you can contribute towards supporting the people of Afghanistan during this scary time. You can buy a beautiful art print by Archibald finalist Luke Cornish, with 100 per cent of all profits donated towards Sydney-based NGO Mahboba’s Promise, a Sydney-based NGO dedicated to supporting disadvantaged women and children in Afghanistan.

And you can stream A Love Letter to Our Watan. The free online event, happening on Saturday, September 4 at 7.30pm, is presented by youth theatre company PYT Fairfield. It promises to be an inspiring night that celebrates the beauty of Persian poetry, history and storytelling. Former director of Kabul University, Mahdi Mohammadi, an ensemble member of PYT, will host the event alongside tradie and performer Jawad Yaqoubi (Tribunal) and Sydney Opera House programming coordinator, academic and fellow ensemble member Bibi Goul Mossavi (Swimming Pool).

While the event is free, participants are encouraged to donate to the Baba Mazari Foundation, which supports impoverished families, child labourers and disadvantaged students in Afghanistan. We can all help out in our own small way. That’s the message of hope that the presenters of A Love Letter to Our Watan want to pass on.

Want to find another way to help? Here's how to help the Afghan community right now.
