Settle in for a deeply personal tale that shines a light on addiction, recovery and mental health issues when Breaking the Castle opens at Parramatta’s Riverside Theatres for an exclusive four-show run from April 7.
Written and performed by Peter Cook (who you may recognise from the ABC’s Total Control and Channel 7’s Home and Away), this semi-autobiographical show invites you into the world of David, a struggling actor trying to find his purpose in life.
Between juggling auditions, an addiction to drugs, alcohol and gambling, and the overwhelming feeling of never belonging anywhere, he spirals out of control until an unexpected lifeline – a stint at rehab in Southeast Asia – offers him a chance at redemption. The only catch? He’s going to have to confront his inner demons and long-buried secrets.
With director Caroline Stacey at the helm, it’s a surprisingly funny, uplifting and optimistic production. Because even despite the heavy subject matter, Breaking the Castle is also a story of hope, recovery and humans overcoming insurmountable obstacles – and that’s something guaranteed to resonate with audiences, whether they have experience with addiction or not.
Tickets for this emotional rollercoaster of a performance are just $49 (member and concession pricing is also available). For more information on session times and to secure your spot, head to the website.
