Jessica Bellamy fuses storytelling with live music and cooking in this wide-ranging show at Griffin

Forget dinner and a show. What about dinner in a show? Young Australian playwright Jessica Bellamy has taken inspiration from the Jewish tradition of Shabbat dinner and the stories told around her family dining table to create a meal turned performance that explores faith, food, family and feminism – as well as the secrets to a good borscht. Inspired by the sense of belonging that the Shabbat ritual engenders in her own community, every night Bellamy will be cooking up a meal influenced by the recipes of her late grandmother and inviting the audience to join in, in an event that blends storytelling, poetry and live music.
