Time Out says

The beachside 'burb becomes an interactive playground for ten days in April

If you’ve been living the life of all work and no play, we’ve got the perfect solution: Play Manly. From April 21-30, 2022, Manly will transform into an interactive playground for kids and grown-ups alike. From the wharf to the beach, you’ll find countless fun, free activities.

The event will showcase entertainment across six themes: light, art, music, food, stories and games. Whether you’re planning a date night or a family outing with the kids, everyone is invited.

See Manly in a different light with the help of incredible light installations and projections. Watch lights interact with city buildings, including Manly Town Hall and St Matthews Church. Later, explore Manly’s laneways, surrounded by colourful illuminations, palm trees and giant letters. It’s the ideal backdrop for an Instagram-worthy moment.

Art is at the heart of Play Manly. Catch a short film at the beachside cinema, complete with comfy deck chairs and tasty snacks. Alternatively, check out mirrored sculptures, photos, murals, workshops and a glow tunnel experience.

Music lovers should head to the main stage to see a stellar lineup of music acts including roots-reggae-folk act Black Bird Hum and Northern Beaches duo LamBros, or visit the piano on the Town Hall steps where a musician will play surprise sets throughout the festival.

Former MasterChef contestant and host of Taste of Australia, Hayden Quinn, knows good food. Given that he’s one of Play Manly’s ambassadors, it’s no surprise that the food during the event is next-level. Spoil your taste buds with a selection of food and drink deals at local venues.

You’ll hear fascinating stories of the region. A smoking ceremony at Eve’s Cove will kick things off, you’ll also enjoy murals, storytelling displays and the Step Back in Time exhibition, which details Manly’s storied Indigenous history.

Putting the ‘play’ in Play Manly is a selection of outdoor games including giant-sized Scrabble and Checkers, mazes and outdoor battle games.

A joint initiative between Northern Beaches Council, Hello Manly and Experience Manly, Play Manly is funded under the Investment NSW CBDs Revitalisation Program. The program encourages locals and regional visitors to explore CBDs across Greater Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong.
