This specialty market is conveniently timed in the lead-up to Christmas, displaying and selling independent Australian fashion, jewellery and accessories, as well as ceramics, photography and art.
The wares on offer are a cut above what you’d find at an outdoor or warehouse market – we are in the Strand Arcade, after all. Curated by contemporary objects retailer and commissioner Courtesy of the Artist, there’s a focus on artisanal and handcrafted objects that aren’t mass produced.
You can expect to find silk scarves printed with Sydney artist Lauren Webster’s nostalgic Americana-inspired graphics and minimalist timepieces from Aark Collective. You could even set the entire Christmas Eve dinner table, with pared-back tableware from Canberra-based silversmith Alison Jackson, Avi Amesbury’s one-of-a-kind porcelain, volcanic ash and clay ceramics, and a bottle of Strand Arcade restaurant Pendolino’s olive oil for passing around.
The first run of the market is from November 16-18 and entry is free, with plans for them to become a monthly occurrence.
