Time Out says

Sydney's largest green space is the place to spend the chilly season, with a pop-up theme park devoted to wintertime fun

UPDATE, June 24: In response to new restrictions and border closures, the opening of Winter in the Domain and Winterpark has been postponed to July 10. Find out more here.

If you dream of walking in a winter wonderland, you best head to the Domain. From July 10 until July 18, the Winterpark will be Sydney’s go-to destination for the best seasonal fun in the city, packed with warming snacks, family-friendly activities and a whole heap of carnival attractions to boot. Presented by the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and the Domain, it’s part of the Winter in the Domain festival, and is completely free to enter.

One of the biggest draws will be the pop-up skating rink, where skaters of all abilities, from Bambi-level wobblers to budding Bradburys, can borrow some blades and take to the ice (BYO spangly unitards). Best to prebook tickets as each session has a limited capacity. Prices start from $19 for a 45-minute session.

If you enjoy your thrills a little more white-knuckle, Winterpark has a range of rides for adrenaline junkies, including the Slingshot, which hurls riders into the air at electrifying speeds courtesy of two bungee cords, and the Aviator, a circle swing ride to lift your spirits high into the sky. There are also more family-oriented attractions like dodgem cars and a charming carousel, ideal for kids of all ages.

Visitors can keep the cold at bay in the undercover bar area while they enjoy a hot chocolate or a mulled wine. There will also be a host of other wintery eats and to-go bites on offer, so we suggest you arrive hungry.

Next to the Winterpark, you’ll find the Winter in the Domain Big Top, which will be hosting a series of huge live gigs with some of Australia’s top acts. Why not make a night of it, with a skate and a snack in Winterpark before heading in for a night of tunes under the 'top?

NSW Discover vouchers are now accepted for all Big Top shows and adult ice skating. To redeem the voucher for Big Top shows, check out the ‘Discover Voucher Ticket’ for GA or VIP and apply your Discover voucher code when prompted. For ice skating, select your session date and time, enter the code DISCOVER and the $25 discount code will be applied. Enter your Discover voucher code when prompted.

Winter in the Domain is in full compliance with NSW health regulations including capacity limits. You’ll find marshalls ensuring guests socially distance and complimentary hand-san stations throughout. All bars, merchandise and food stalls will be equipped with contactless payment and the entire site has been carefully designed to avoid crowding so you can enjoy your night with total peace of mind.
