While its traditions lie more closely with Celtic, Nordic and Highland history, this nighttime feast is channeling some hectic Game of Thrones vibes. It’s essentially a fire-side dinner in the very quaint and not at all intimidating Southern Highlands, but it’s got that ritualistic, Pagan thing going on. Think blazing infernos, lots of thick, floor-length cloaks and bards and minstrels for the evening’s entertainment
The feast falls on the eve of the winter solstice (the shortest sun-drenched day of the year), and the tables will be laid in the Meryla State Forest, just outside of Moss Vale. The menu will be a grand, hearty affair, with roasted meats, baked winter veg, mulled wine and other local drops.
They’re keeping the mysterious, spooky angle going, by not releasing the exact location of the feast until right before the event – risky. But it’s a sure bet if you stick to accommodation in nearby suburbs like Bundanoon, Moss Vale (there’ll be a shuttle bus running from here if you require a chariot), Sutton Forest or Fitzroy Falls.
