Leafy Victoria Street is an interesting mix of posh restaurants, ramshackle youth hostels and converted Victorian mansions – all just around the corner from the strip clubs and general sleaze of Kings Cross. This small hotel, formed from two 1881 terraced houses, is a celebration of Victorian extravagance, from the four-poster beds to the floral-printed everything (carpeting, curtains, wallpaper). All rooms are air-conditioned and have private bathrooms; some have marble fireplaces and wrought-iron balconies. Breakfast is served in the gorgeous plant-filled courtyard around a bubbling fountain. Internet (dataport/high-speed pay terminal). No smoking. Parking ($11). TV. Rates $88-$250 double. Rooms 22.
