These are the spots that truly deserve your weekend

Advertising

In a city that runs on street food, the Western-style breakfast has staged a remarkable coup. Bangkok is now a brunch-obsessed town, a place where the quality of your weekend can be measured in perfectly poached eggs and artisanal coffee. But with a new, photogenic cafe flinging open its doors every other week, separating the truly brilliant from the merely basic can be a full-time job.

That's where we come in. We've navigated the queues, sampled the sourdough, and downed the flat whites to crown the champions of the city's breakfast scene. Whether you're after a virtuous health bowl or a gloriously indulgent feast, these are the spots that truly deserve your weekend.

  • Asok

What it is: A bright and bustling café-bistro in the heart of Asoke that brings Gallic soul to Thai terroir. Helmed by a passionate Franco-Thai-Aussie couple, VIVIN is a love letter to the country's artisanal producers, with a menu built almost entirely on locally sourced and organic ingredients. Think rustic French épicerie meets a chic Bangkok breakfast spot.

Why we love it: VIVIN offers a delicious alternative to standard bacon and eggs. Here, breakfast is a thoroughly French affair, showcasing the country's best artisanal products. Think exceptionally flaky, buttery croissants served with house-made jams and a souffle fluffy omelette. For the full experience, the cheese and charcuterie platters are a must, offering a delicious tour of Thailand's burgeoning artisanal scene. It’s the marriage of grocery and restaurant that's the real genius; you can enjoy a fantastic breakfast, then take all the key components home with you.

Time Out tip: The terrace is the perfect spot to sip on an organic fruit smoothie. Ask the knowledgeable staff to help you build a custom cheese board, and don't leave without stocking up on edible souvenirs from the well-curated grocery shelves.

What it is: Nordic-inspired setting and Nordic-inspired food (the name means ‘island’ in Finnish) – Kasnäs is set in a gorgeous modern wooden building, serving healthy breakfast boards and high-powered smoothies for Sathorn's resident population of spandex-clad ladies of leisure.

Why we love it: It would be easy for us to roll our eyes at yet another health-conscious purveyor of avocado and chia, but Kasnäs shows us that the healthy brunch concept has life in it yet. The dense, Nordic whole-grain breads are outstanding, and pair beautifully with efficient little Scando-dishes (think cured salmon, various roes, egg salad, sauteed mushrooms...). We're big fans of the build-your-own breakfast boards (five- or seven-piece), a sort of brunch tapas that allows you to sample some of the best they've got. Smoothies lean heavily into the granola and coconut products, but don't sacrifice tastiness in the name of getting your macros. And if you want something more conventionally indulgent, duck confit with waffle and eggs should sort you out.

Time Out tip: This is a proudly doggo-friendly establishment. Whether that means you get to bring your best friend to brunch or whether it means be forewarned depends on you.

  • Bang Rak

What it is: A go-to breakfast spot tucked away in a handsome restored shophouse on Pan Road, Luka offers a Western-style cafe experience with a distinctively Bangkokian feel. The vibe is sophisticated yet relaxed, with vintage-industrial decor and a leafy front terrace.

Why we love it: In a city saturated with cafes, Luka has remained a firm favourite for years, and for good reason. The quality is consistently excellent and they absolutely nail the breakfast classics. Burrito is a hefty parcel of flavour-packed joy, 'Fat Bastard' plate is a formidable take on the full English and shakshuka is a perfectly executed morning treat. The coffee programme is serious, making it one of the best places for a morning caffeine fix, with a rotating selection of beans for pour-overs and perfectly pulled flat whites.

Time Out tip: Luka gets very busy, especially on weekend mornings, so either book ahead or be prepared for a bit of a wait – which you can happily spend browsing the adjoining Casa Pagoda lifestyle and furniture store.

  • Yenarkat

What it is: Arguably the city's most sought-after breakfast reservation. Tucked away in a quiet soi off Rama 4 Road, Fran's is a light-drenched glasshouse restaurant surrounded by a lush garden. It’s the place that has flooded social media feeds, serving devastatingly photogenic, elevated breakfast plates to a perpetually packed house of local foodies and early risers.

Why we love it: Let's be honest, you're probably here for that sandwich. The signature Velvet Egg & Bacon open-faced sandwich is a thing of beauty and a true morning indulgence, featuring impossibly silky scrambled eggs piled high on sourdough, topped with a doorstop-thick slab of sweet and salty maple-glazed bacon. It lives up to the hype. But Fran's is no one-trick pony; the breakfast menu is packed with other hits, from light, fluffy ricotta pancakes to a perfectly executed Steak & Eggs for those after a truly substantial start. It’s a special-occasion breakfast that delivers on both style and substance.

Time Out tip: Do not, we repeat, do not just turn up expecting a table, especially on a weekend morning. Reservations are released online and get snapped up almost instantly. You need to plan ahead and be quick to secure your spot.

  • Phrom Phong

What it is: A sleek breakfast spot and coffee roastery on the ground floor of EmQuartier's Helix building. With its moody, sophisticated decor and a prime location overlooking the central garden and waterfall, D'ARK EmQuartier is a reliable, upscale retreat from the Phrom Phong hustle.

Why we love it: D'ARK takes its morning coffee very seriously. Whether you opt for a classic flat white or a meticulously prepared single-origin pour-over, the quality is undeniable. But it's much more than just a place for a great brew. The breakfast menu is packed with well-executed comfort food, from classic smoked salmon eggs benedict to creative toasts like truffle mayo chicken sourdough. It's a master of the morning meal, providing a polished and delicious start to any day.

Time Out tip: Snag a table on the outdoor terrace if you can. It’s one of the best spots in the city for people-watching over a morning coffee, and it's pet-friendly, so your four-legged friend can join, too.

Available on Grab Dine Out

What it is: The Singaporean import that firmly cemented itself as a cornerstone of Bangkok's brunch scene. Sarnies' signature rustic-industrial look – all exposed brickwork and weathered charm – creates a cool yet inviting atmosphere that's become the city's ground zero for a serious coffee fix and substantial, flavour-packed breakfasts.

Why we love it: Sarnies delivers breakfast with backbone. This isn't the place for dainty portions; the dishes are robust, satisfying, and consistently delicious. Their take on the 'big breakfast' is a proper, no-nonsense plate loaded with perfectly cooked eggs, crispy bacon, and savoury sausages, all anchored by their excellent house-made sourdough. Said sourdough is also the perfect canvas for classic toppings like creamy smashed avocado or rich smoked salmon. The coffee, roasted in-house, is the real deal – bold, expertly brewed, and the perfect kickstart to any morning.

Time Out tip: It's no secret this place is popular, especially on weekends. Our advice? Beat the brunch rush by arriving early to snag a good table and enjoy a more relaxed vibe.

  • Thai
  • Siam

What it is: An artsy explosion that moonlights as one of Bangkok’s coolest breakfast spots. Airy loft-style space inside Siam@Siam Design Hotel’s ground floor is reimagined for morning revelry with soaring ceilings, an abundance of natural light and a constantly rotating collection of contemporary art that keeps eyeballs as stimulated as taste buds.

Why we love it: Chim Chim approaches breakfast with a generous dollop of creativity and a serious commitment to quality. Beyond their legendary hangover brekkie, salmon eggs benedict stands out for its perfectly poached eggs and succulent salmon draped in a silky smooth hollandaise sauce. For something on the lighter (but equally delicious) side, kale salad with roasted pumpkin and pear is a delightful revelation, bursting with fresh flavours and textures. And what better to pair it all with than their single-origin coffee sourced from Chiang Rai, a brew that's as rich in flavour as the atmosphere is in style.

Time Out tip: Make your Sunday a family affair! Chim Chim often hosts fantastic Family Sundays, complete with a build-your-own ice cream sundae party that'll have the kids (and let's be honest, you too) grinning from ear to ear. Keep an eye on their social media for special kids' games and events that make it the perfect destination for a fun-filled family breakfast.

  • Nana

What it is: On a street best known for its after-dark antics, Molino offers a welcome plot twist: a fantastic Mexican breakfast. Hiding in plain sight on the perpetually buzzing Sukhumvit Soi 11, this cosy spot trades tequila shots for top-notch morning coffee and huevos rancheros, providing a distinctly different start to the day.

Why we love it: We're particularly enamoured with the chilaquiles, a comforting symphony of fried tortillas and cheese, all bathed in a rich, zesty salsa verde and crowned with a fried egg. It’s a dish that feels both authentic and invigorating. The real game-changer, though, is the pistachio horchata – a creamy, nutty concoction so good it'll have you rethinking your morning coffee. And if you fancy starting the day with a bit more kick, their excellent selection of agave spirits is on hand.

Time Out tip: Get there early to enjoy the calm before Soi 11 truly wakes up. And whatever you do, ask for a dash of their house-made hot sauce – it takes the breakfast dishes to another level.

What it is: In a charming corner lot that feels miles from the usual Bangkok bustle, Simple Natural Kitchen is a cosy, sun-drenched space where the emphasis is on fresh, wholesome ingredients and creative international dishes that make you feel truly nourished. It's the kind of spot you recommend to a friend who values true quality and the ambience of an architects’ personal residence.

Why we love it: In a city that’s constantly buzzing, sometimes you just want breakfast that feels like a warm hug, but without the guilt trip. Simple Natural Kitchen delivers precisely that. They champion, well, simplicity and natural goodness, without ever sacrificing flavour. Their breakfast menu is a delightful ode to wholesome beginnings, from smoothie bowls packed with superfoods to beautifully executed avocado toasts that actually live up to the hype. Like us, you'll likely find yourself lingering over their original kra prao quinoa with Cumberland sausage or eggplant shakshuka in a sizzling cast iron.

Time Out tip: If you're driving, you’re in luck there is private parking in a bucolic courtyard. And while everything on the menu is tempting, their homemade baked goods are often a delightful surprise – grab one for later!

What it is: On a quiet corner of Sukhumvit 49, Kay's is a modern haven designed for the breakfast aficionado. It’s an airy, light-filled space where morning sun spills across Carrara marble, glass walls look out onto lush greenery and a soundtrack of smooth piano jazz lends a cinematic feel.

Why we love it: While Kay's commands attention throughout the day, it truly hits its stride when the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and sizzling bacon fill the air. This is where breakfast classics get a glow-up. Think eggs royale with an herbaceous hollandaise, house-made cured salmon over crispy hash browns. It’s elevated to an art form, with perfectly poached eggs cascading over inspired bases, far beyond the usual suspects. And pancakes? Fluffy clouds of delight, practically begging for a drizzle of syrup. To satisfy any level of indulgent craving, slowly devour lobster or scallop bomb savoury toast.

Time Out tip: For the most serene experience, aim for a weekday. It gets buzzy on weekends, but the spacious layout means you'll rarely wait long. Pro tip: don't skip the freshly squeezed juices – they're the perfect zesty exclamation point to a truly luxurious breakfast.

  • Ratchaprasong

What it is: In the sprawling expanse of CentralWorld, this large corner restaurant feels like an urban oasis for breakfast lovers. The decor is effortlessly cool without trying too hard – all exposed brick and warm lighting – creating a buzzy atmosphere that feels a world away from the mall corridors. For us, it's like the reliable friend who always knows how to whip up something delicious to start your morning, no questions asked.

Why we love it: Let's be real, navigating CentralWorld before the shops open can feel like a mission, but Roast makes the journey entirely worthwhile. They've absolutely nailed the art of the Western breakfast. Eggs benedict here are legendary, pancakes are fluffy and breakfast platters are seriously substantial. It's all executed with a consistent quality that just hits the spot. And crucially, coffee is top-notch, offering that much-needed jolt. Roast is the kind of place you can count on for a satisfying, well-made morning feast.

Time Out tip:

Dessert for breakfast might feel like an indulgence, but trust us on this one. The berry pie is a non-negotiable finisher, no matter the time of day.
