Time Out says

The collaborative dining event, set for three days in June, sees Chef Thep and Chef Black reimagining khao gaeng.

Not too long after returning to the food scene with his new PRODE menu, TAAN chef Monthep “Thep” Kamolsilp is gearing up for a new food event, this time in collaboration with Chiang Mai cooking maestro Chef Phanuphon “Black” Bulsuwan of Blackitch Artisan Kitchen.

Called Thep Black Pochana: Khao Gaeng Remixed, the culinary event will see the two chefs giving a new twist to the popular street food staple for three days in June at TAAN on the 25th floor of Siam@Siam Design Hotel Bangkok.

The four-hand pop-up dinner was due to take place last year, but was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that TAAN has reopened and the culinary scene is relatively back to normal, both chefs are eager to present their creative take on the curry-on-rice tradition, with Chef Black incorporating fermentation methods and Chef Thep maximizing his knowledge of Thai and French cooking techniques.

Khao gaeng is fun because it’s something that’s not fixed,” Chef Black explains. “You can mix any topping together.” Meanwhile, Chef Thep believes that the event will allow guests to see their “naughty sides” as they attempt to think outside the box and create new dishes out of the traditional meal.

Thep Black Pochana: Khao Gaeng Remixed will be serving a 12-course tasting menu from June 16 to 18 at the price of B3,500++ per person. Call 06 5328 7374 or message LINE (@taanbangkok) for reservations.
