Chicago’s cocktail scene just got another global stamp of approval. When the 2026 list of North America’s 50 Best Bars dropped this week, four Windy City spots landed on it—an impressive showing that underscores the city’s balance of precision, personality and hospitality.

Leading the pack is Kumiko at number 11, which also picked up the Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award and was named the Best Bar in the Midwest. It’s a fitting honor for a space that treats cocktail-making as more ceremony than service, blending Japanese technique with Midwestern warmth. Kumiko has long been a destination for serious drinkers, and this kind of continued recognition cements it as one of the most thoughtful bars on the continent. (Not to mention its ranking as the best bar on the planet in 2025's Spirited Awards.)

Not far behind is Best Intentions at number 16, a bar that proves high-level cocktails don’t require preciousness. Known for its laid-back, dive-bar energy, wide-ranging menu and sharply executed drinks, it represents a different side of Chicago’s scene, where accessibility and ambition comfortably coexist.

Then there’s Gus' Sip & Dip at number 27, which leans into a more playful, nostalgic approach to drinking culture. The name alone signals a sense of humor, but the inclusion here suggests the execution is serious enough to stand alongside North America's best.

At number 30, Bisous brings a more stylized, design-forward perspective. Its presence on the list reflects a broader trend across North America’s top bars: spaces that think as carefully about atmosphere and storytelling as they do about what’s in the glass.

In addition to the four bars in the top, three additional Chicago watering holes made the extended list of the best bars in North America: Meadowlark (number 65), Nine Bar (number 76) and Queen Mary (number 80).

This year’s list, announced at a ceremony in Vancouver, crowned NYC's Sip & Guzzle as the top bar in North America, moving it up from number 4 in the 2025 ranking to replace Mexico City's Bar Mauro, which moved down to number 2. But Chicago’s showing proves that the city’s bars continue to push what hospitality can look like. And broadening the scope of what makes a bar great while it's at it.
