The newly renovated Panggung Anniversary in Lake Gardens plays host to ASWARA Faculty of Dance’s maiden production of 2014. In collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture as well as Kuala Lumpur City Hall, ‘Fiesta of Traditional Dances of Malaysia – Dancing in the Moonlight’ showcases five traditional folk and classical dance pieces in as many nights.
The animal-themed ‘Animal Kingdom’ (March 5) kicks off proceedings, before ‘Zapin Night’ (March 6), ‘Asyik’ (March 7) and joget-centric ‘Folk Extravaganza’ (March 8) take centre stage. ‘New Traditions’ (March 9), which sees a new fleet of choreographers reinventing age-old material, closes the show. With esteemed artistic director Joseph Gonzales at the helm, ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ promises to be a definitive re-education about our country’s cultural dances and heritage performances.
