Note: Galeri Tenaga is temporarily closed for renovation
Few know that large corporations have art collections that are available for public viewing. Head to Galeri Tenaga in Petaling Jaya to see how Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) have been patronising the arts with our electricity bill payments. The electricity board has been doing so since the late ’60s, making it one of the oldest private collections in the country. Tenaga Nasional Berhad regrouped all their artworks and gave them a proper home opposite Amcorp Mall in 2005. Its early years showed signs of great promise, but of late, things have been lacklustre. Still, the collection is commendable.
The low visitor numbers mean you get to hang out with the permanent collection’s Modern Malaysian artists in relative secret. Their collection includes many key artists of the twentieth century, and there’s even a painting from the very popular ‘Pago-Pago’ series by Latiff Mohidin. Best to call ahead before you go.
