Mika Ninagawa has trained her eye in all manners of portraiture as well as still photography. Like an irrepressible colourist, Mika fl oods her works with vivid, futuristic colour palettes, forcing viewers to pause at the simplest snapshot of fl owers, landscapes and, one of her favourite subjects, goldfish.
Having also dabbled in fashion, advertising and film (she debuted as a full-length director in 2007 with ‘Sakuran’), the acclaimed photographer is also appointed as one of the executive board members of the 2020 Tokyo Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Catch her work – of temples, shrines and Geimaiko (Japanese professional female entertainers at drinking parties) captured in modern-day Kyoto – alongside a collaborative visual work with media art group Rhizomatiks.
