Ampang Park shopping centre may not be demolished after all

Following last month's news that KL's oldest shopping mall would be demolished for MRT construction works (cue this nostalgia-laced blog post), MRT Corp yesterday issued a statement detailing revised plans for the construction of the Ampang Park MRT station, which will be shifted slightly away from the mall's location, hence saving it from demolition. According to reports, the revised design would mean that MRT Corp will have to scrap initial plans of turning the future MRT station into a full, physical integration with the Ampang Park LRT; instead, there will be an underground pedestrian linkway beneath the mall. Certain areas of the basement carpark and the ground floor will have to be closed off for construction work for up to 36 months, but that's better than completely tearing down a 42-year-old building.

MRT Corp will only go ahead with this plan once they get a mutual agreement from all strata unit owners, which should be concluded and signed by the end of January. Let's just hope this goes smoothly, otherwise it's bye-bye Ampang Park for sure.
