Some secrets shouldn't be kept, especially if the secret is one of abuse. 'Can You Keep a Secret?' is a ceramic art installation by Women's Aid Organisation (WAO) with artist James Seet from Arc Worldwide that allows visitors to see and hear the stories of domestic abuse survivors.

Through headphones and a coin-sized hole at the back of each of the 12 life-size ceramic head sculptures, each piece gives a haunting look into the thoughts and experiences of the survivors, masked by excuses that justify why they stay.

One audio recording goes, ‘I know he loves me (when I don't want to have sex he says I don't love him, but if I do he makes fun of me, calls me a slut and uses it against me) and I love him.’

These shocking stories aim to highlight the need for bystanders to speak up about domestic violence and put aside the fear of being a 'busybody' to help those in need. ‘Can You Keep a Secret?’ goes on at The Gardens Mall’s ground floor area until Sunday, August 16.
