After the opening of the LRT extensions, here are more exciting public transport news: MRT Corp (Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd) has confirmed that the first of the Klang Valley MRT Project – the Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) line – will begin its three-month trial run beginning October 1 before the service officially kicks off on December 31.

According to a report by The Star, MRT Corp Director of Operations and Assets Management Mahmood Razak has stated that structural works for the elevated stations are complete, and all supporting facilities such as parking and buses (for the first phase: at least 1,200 parking bays and 140 buses with ten-minute frequencies are available) will begin operations to back the SBK line.

While the 51km line (31 stations in all) will begin from Sungai Buloh, run through the city centre and end in Kajang, the trial only includes Phase One of the project for now with 12 stations: Sungai Buloh, Kampung Selamat, Kwasa Damansara (which will be linked to an integrated transport terminal that will serve as an interchange station between the SBK and Serdang-Putrajaya line in the future), Kwasa Sentral, Kota Damansara, Surian (here’s where you get off for meatballs at IKEA), Mutiara Damansara, Bandar Utama, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Phileo Damansara, Pusat Bandar Damansara and Semantan

Phase One doesn’t include the Muzium Negara station (which will connect to KL Sentral, where interchange galore for KTM, LRT, KTM Intercity, KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit is possible) just yet. For that, look forward to Phase Two of the project in July 2017.
