Director Masahiro Kobayashi tells the tale of former fisherman Tadao and his recently unemployed granddaughter Haru who hit the road to see if one of his estranged siblings is willing to look after him. Showing a masterful portrayal of two of contemporary Japanese society's most pressing issues - an aging population and crippling recession - through themes of acceptance, resilience and familial commitment, 'Haru's Journey' was named Best Japanese Film at the 20th Japanese Film Critics Awards. The free screening will be presented in Japanese with English subtitles.
