Massage Corner

Although Pacific Regency has some staples of a regular hotel such as a lobby, (Luna) bar and restaurant, it still comes across as more of a serviced apartment – which is why I wouldn’t have guessed that it has a massage/spa centre until quite recently.

To its credit, the name ‘Massage Corner’ doesn’t make any pretensions because the outlet really is small. There is only one room for Thai massage and another couples’ room (which can be split into two individual curtained rooms when needed) for those who prefer aromatherapy, hot stone and Javanese massages. The décor has nothing much to shout about but it does the job of being simple, comfortable and relaxing. On the plus side, Massage Corner uses products from the famous Thai spa and beauty brand ‘Harnn & Thann’.

I took the Indulgence Package (RM200), which is a two-hour treatment consisting of a full body Javanese massage, foot reflexology and ear candling. However, on my visit, they ran out of ear candle and so I was treated to a 90-minute massage instead, followed by a half-hour foot reflexology.

Javanese massage is a medium to strong deep tissue oil massage believed to be a tradition among Javanese royalties. It uses palm and thumb strokes to ease tensed and tired muscles. Sensing that the muscles on my shoulders and back were all knotted up, my masseuse paid extra attention to alleviate them, which made the treatment more therapeutic than I had expected. This sort of deep pressure massage is good for a really tired achy body, and as a post-sport or post-heavy travelling relief. The massage oil used was quite an invigorating one, infused with oriental herbs such as lemongrass, lime and ginger.

Since I was already on the massage table, the foot reflexology session was carried out with me lying down – even though there is a small section with plush lounge chairs for this particular treatment. The foot reflexology is more Thai style than your regular Chinese ones so they are slightly milder.
Admittedly the menu is limited, just like the space it occupies, but Massage Corner is worthy if all you are looking for is a good, no-frills massage.
