Sandwiched between two woebegone flats at Jalan Berhala is Seng Hong Tokong. It’s a bit deserted but bravely walk into the old shrine; the herbal steam bath is just next to it. What greets you is a pared down steam room no bigger than a pantry, which fits two benches. Technically, this isn’t a bath but a sauna: steam of traditional herbs permeates the cement room and seeps into your pores. The owner Mr Teoh claims that the herbs cure skin problems, arthritis, muscular ailments and sometimes sinus. At just RM14 per 45 minutes, you’ll be sweating toxins and hopefully, burning some fat.
