It’s very easy to spend an entire day at FRIM, whether you choose to cycle or trek the clearly marked out trails. Although the park’s famed Canopy Walk has been closed since June 30 to help preserve the surrounding flora and fauna, there are other attractions worth checking out, particularly the insect house and Ethnobotanical Garden (herbs). FRIM even has a number of picnic spots near Sungai Kroh and a waterfall for children to splash in.

There are a surprising amount of green spaces in KL and you’re never too far away from a park. In fact, the KL Forest Eco Park located smack in the middle of the city is a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. Formerly known as the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve, this urban park is one of the remaining patches of tropical rainforest in the city. It’s perfect for families living in the city and those who want to venture outside the ‘burbs. You can also opt for a guided tour with the park rangers who can teach the kids about the variety of tropical species residing in the jungle including long-tailed macaques, squirrels and silver leaf monkeys.

Skytrex Adventure
  • Kids
  • Shah Alam
Skytrex was one of the first activity venues which took advantage of the outdoor spaces in Shah Alam, offering city folk a chance to challenge themselves physically on its obstacle course and canopy walk. Located within the 817 hectares of Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam, which is a forest reserve, this park offers three levels of activities – beginner (Little Adventure), intermediate (Big Thrill) and advanced (Extreme Challenge).

Younger kids are only allowed to participate in Little Adventure activities where they have to be accompanied by an adult; while the older ones, teens and brave parents can try the more difficult levels. Expect flying foxes, canopy walks, plank and rope ladders and lots of laughs. It’s a good venue for outdoor birthday parties and group outings as well. There are also Skytrex parks in Langkawi and Malacca if you’re visiting.
