Beethoven’s Sensational Seven

Strauss’s ‘Four Last Songs’ inhabits a world unto itself – it confronts death with music and poetry, suggesting that death isn’t an end, but a transition, points on a continuum. Concluding the concert is Beethoven’s ‘Seventh Symphony’, a symphony that has since been subjected to the widest and wildest spectrum of interpretations by critics past.
